Robert Steiner

Robert Steiner was born in Philadelphia on October 10, 1949. As a youth, he lived in Miami, where his main interests were seascapes and modern art. At the age of 18 Steiner won his first art competition which landed him a National Scholastic magazine scholarship to the Rhode Island School of Design. Steiner graduated from RISD with bachelor of fine arts degree in 1971 and moved to San Francisco, where he developed his interest in wildlife. Steiner enrolled in San Francisco State University and earned a masters degree in Fine Art & Print Making in 1976. He then taught college-level art, and did freelance work such as book and magazine illustration. In 1981 he won the California State Duck Stamp competition. In the late 1980’s, Mr. Steiner established himself as one of wildlife art’s most successful painters, racking up numerous state duck stamp contest victories and commissions. His works have been displayed at major art shows and exhibitions throughout the country. Currently, there is a five-year waiting list for his originals.

2000 Millennium Governor’s Remarqued Sets

To commemorate the new millennium the California Dept. of Fish and Game, the Oregon and Washington Dept. of Fish and Wildlife commissioned Robert Steiner, to create one large painting for all three states. All of the 2000 Millennium Duck Stamp prints have been issued separately, in the same editions as in previous years. As a unique commemoration of the millennium, special Millennium Sets were issued. These sets include all three state duck stamp prints and an additional print of the entire design. There have been any duck stamp prints like these before and there will not be another millennium for a thousand years.

Only 200 Governor’s Remarqued Sets have been issued. Each four print set includes a matching number of California, Oregon, and Washington Duck Stamp Print signed by the artist and the Governor of each state. Each print has a hand painted color remarque. Each set has a gold plated bronze medallion for each state. The 2000 Millennium West Coast Triptych Duck Stamp Print has a gold Millennium Medallion of the entire design and a special souvenir sheet of all three stamps together and signed by the governors and the artist.

2006 25^th Anniversary Governor’s Remarqued Sets

The five print Governor Edition Remarqued Set includes the duck stamps of Alaska, Washington, and Oregon. All signed by the governor of the state. A 25^th anniversary duck stamp print signed by the artist, a stamp overprinted, signed by the three governors and the artist. The larger print is framed with a limited edition silver and gold plated copper medallion of the entire design. Only 250 2006 25^th Anniversary Governor’s Remarqued sets have been issued. Each print has a hand painted color remarque.
