Keiko Kojima
I was born and raised in Japan. There I studied Calligraphy and many different
floral designs including traditional Japanese Ikebana as my art form for many
years. I was always interested in paintings, which is a universal language and
more intimate to me.
Fortunately, I met wonderful instructors at college who have passion for teaching and are great artists as well. Also, I value other artists who have studied and grown together as artists. First, I was fascinated by colored pencils which is easy- to - use medium but quality of oil paining. Then I was getting interested in other mediums especially oil painting. Oil is strong medium that even a small painting attracts viewers. Now I mostly paint still life and figures in oil. Recreating their complexity and beauty especially the person's inside motions and personality rather than likeness on my canvases challenges but excites me. At home I paint ordinary objects surrounded me. Seasonal flowers and fruits become great subjects. For my paintings the relationship between subjects and light, color, and space is very important. I rediscover beauty and uniqueness of ordinary objects while I paint ,which keeps me painting.
I feel like starting to voyage whenever I start a new painting. I often encounter what I never expect and I enjoy adventuring and exploring on my endless journey. I hope I can share my journey and discoveries to viewers.
